Cliff Lampe is Professor of Information and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI), where he studies the social and technical dynamics of large-scale, technology-mediated communication on platforms such as Facebook, Wikipedia, and Slashdot, with recent work examining online harassment, misinformation, and the risks and opportunities generative AI poses for online communities. His early work in social media helped to define the academic study of those platforms. He holds a PhD from the University of Michigan.  A leader in the human-computer interaction community, Lampe has served in multiple roles within ACM's SIGCHI, including executive vice president and chair of the CHI Conference steering committee, and chaired CHI 2022; in 2024 he was named an ACM Fellow for his contributions to social network systems research and his leadership within SIGCHI, and he is the recipient of the 2026 ACM SIGCHI Lifetime Service Award.
